                  P e r s o n a l i t y :

                    + Charismatic

                    + Some-what social

+ Tries to be a good person

                    -   Doesn't think before he speaks

                    -   Sarcastic

                    -   Cowardly

                    - Vain

At first glance, Conrad is very charismatic, always trying to flatter people and be kind to them. He is very good at making himself appear relaxed and in control. However, he has a sarcastic side that he tries ( and fails) not to show. He often doesn’t think before he speaks, and will say something rude or pick on others but will apologize profusely later on.

He enjoys positive attention, making people think he is very social. He does enjoy being around people as long as they don’t get too close to him. Conrad has difficulty getting close to people, partly due to his curse, partly due to his own insecurities about himself and his limp.

Because he tries to keep away from anything that would make him go down the wrong path again, Conrad will often become uncomfortable around any situation he deems immoral, and will try to concoct a reason as to why he suddenly needs to leave.

He is quite cowardly, and if threatened with violence he will almost always run away. His deepest fear is that he will go back to his old ways, and that the curse will never be lifted. Beneath his charismatic facade he is often cursing himself for letting himself fall so far.

Conrad is also very vain, and will spend hours in the morning making sure his hair and clothes are perfect.

Conrad’s true passion is music, and if it is brought up he will talk about his music until the unfortunate person who brought it up falls asleep.

                   H i s t o r y :

 TL;DR:

    -         Conrad was born into a rich family in New Orleans

    -          He lived a cozy life until his parents died in a train accident and his legs were severely injured

    -          He took Opium for the pain and became addicted to it, and fell into a bad crowd and became a big jerk

    -          His aunt arranged for him to be married to a girl who was secretly a witch

    -          She found out he was seeing other women and got really jealous and cursed him so that if anyone touches his skin he turns into a snake-man

    -          He left town, a good witch told him he had to be good again to break the curse

    -          Conrad ended up at the Cirque

    -          So don't do drugs kids

Conrad was born into a wealthy family of merchants from New Orleans.  He lived a very comfortable childhood, and had many friends among the children of the wealthier section of the city. While his father was often away on business, his mother doted on him, practically spoiling him rotten. At the age of 5 he was begrudgingly made to take piano lessons, but after his first lesson, he fell in love with the instrument. His teacher said Conrad had “natural born talent.” His life was cozy and happy.

Until one night, when Conrad was about 17, he and his parents were returning home by train after visiting family in the north. The night was dark and foggy, and the conductor was inexperienced. They rounded a corner too quickly, derailing the train. Many of the passengers were killed including Conrad’s parents. Both of Conrad’s legs were severely broken. He was bedridden for over a year, and when he could finally leave his bed he only got up to play the piano. His aunt Fiona stayed at the house to “take care of him”, but she was a rather aloof woman, and had a terrible bedside manner.

About two years after the accident, Conrad’s doctor decided it was time to take him off of the opium he had been taking for the pain. However, his body was now addicted to it. He started going into withdrawal, and decided the only solution was to go to an Opium Den and get some for himself. So for the first time in over 2 years, Conrad left the house.

This can be widely regarded as a bad move, considering that’s where everything else went wrong.

He did get opium, and his addiction only grew stronger, causing him to borrow large sums of money from untrustworthy people. He fell into a bad crowd, and when his money started to disappear, he turned to gambling.

He came home at all hours of the night, and sometimes not for several days. Within a few years, his personality was almost unrecognizable, the sweet little boy was gone, and he was falling deeper and deeper into debt. He became rude and selfish, pushing away his family and his old friends.

Worried about her nephew’s personality change, Aunt Fiona decided the best thing to do would be to arrange for him to be married. The young girl she chose was Alice Rodrick, a very wealthy young woman. However, unknown to anyone outside of her family, Alice was a powerful sorceress.

When they met, Conrad disliked her immediately, and would barely even look at her. Alice however, was infatuated, and convinced herself she could make this man love her. Unfortunately for Alice, nothing she did worked, and he continued to ignore her, and the few times they did speak he was very rude. But Alice only fell deeper and deeper in love with him, and convinced herself that he loved her.

One night, Alice decided she would use her crystal magic mirror to spy on Conrad. To her dismay, she saw him surrounded by other women, at an establishment that was very unbefitting for a man of his status.  Heartbroken and enraged Alice concocted a plan to exact her revenge.

The next day, she invited Conrad over to her home for dinner, having slipped a poison curse into his wine glass. The second he drank from it, he fell to the floor gasping. Alice stood over him.

“That’s what you get for betraying me, you lying, deceitful, snake,” she said “If I can’t have you, no one else will ever want you…”

She grabbed him and held his head up to a mirror

“You see your pretty face…?” she said.

And as she touched his skin, it began to turn scaly green, his eyes yellow, and his tongue long and forked.

“Now they’ll see you for what you really are. You won’t hurt anyone else like you’ve hurt me. Because you see my dear, everyone will still see you the way you are… still be drawn in like I was…”

She removed her hand and he turned back to normal

“But the second anyone touches your skin, they’ll see you for what you really are… a snake”

Alice threw him onto the ground.

“Now get out… and if I ever see your face again you’ll be sorry!”

And he did get out. Conrad ran back to his home, packed the few belongings he could carry, and ran, getting into various carriages, wagons, and the like, until he found himself in a small town. His weak legs gave out and he collapsed in the street.

When he woke, he was in a bed, an old woman standing over him.

“You, my boy, must have a very interesting story to tell…”

It turned out the woman was also a witch, but a kind one. Conrad told her his story, and she listened. When he finished, she shook her head sadly.

“There’s a powerful curse on you. The only way I know of for you to break it, is to change. You must reform, and become a better person. Only an act of selfless compassion will cure you.”

She told him he must make an honest living, give up his vices, and learn to be kind again. Conrad agreed, begging her to help him break the curse. The kind witch asked him what he could do, and he told her the only useful thing he could do was play the piano.

The witch smiled slyly

“I know the perfect place for you…”

She led him to the outskirts of town, where a mass of circus tents were set up.

“Here you can find yourself again… Good luck”

Conrad entered the circus warily, but quickly discovered it was a place full of wonder and magic.

I can make a new start here…. Here I’ll be able to break this wretched curse…

                    - "Good" people (Ones that won't tempt him)

                    - Warm weather

                     - Tight spaces

                     - Trains (He refuses to ride them)

                  F a m i l y :

- Alexander Buchannan (Father) (Deceased) - Conrad was never very close with his father, and knew him very little because he was always away

- Isabella Buchannan (Mother) (Deceased) - He was very close to his mother, and she spoiled him very much

- Fiona Buchannon (Aunt) - She came to take care of Conrad after the accident, but is a very unemotional woman and they were never able to connect.

                  R e l a t i o n s h i p s :

 - Clementine Smith - Clementine was the head maid at the Buchannan home, she mostly took care of Conrad while he was injured. She was one of the few positive influences in his life after his parents death, and is the only person from his old life that he writes to

- Alice Rodrick - Alice is a wealthy young witch who was engaged to Conrad. When she found he was cheating on her, she cursed him and told him never to come back

- Margaret Andolina - Conrad and Margaret met a few month after Conrad joined the cirque. They hit it off almost instantly. She is one of the few people he will actually let touch him. They are romantically involved.

                  M I S C/O t h e r  I n f o r m a t i o n:

                 - Conrad still has pain in his legs and walks with a heavy limp, which is why he has a cane

                    - When someone touches his skin he turns into a scaly snake man (Like the picture in the background)
                        - Because of this he never removes his gloves and often sleeps with his shoes on

                  - He never actually asked the kind witch what her name was... woops...

                  - Conrad can also decently play the violin and the trumpet, but piano is his passion. He has even composed a few songs himself!

                  - His hand writing is absolutely gorgeous. If computers existed in the 1890s you'd think it was typed

                  - Here's some of his other outfits: fav.me/d7tyks9

                  - He uses too much cologne and always smells strongly of it

                  - The only time he takes his gloves off is when he plays the piano
